Since this course focuses primarily on lighting, I have preemptively established a base render settings set up within each lesson file. The project files associated with each lesson video can be found in the resources section(in the right hand column of this page). In this project you will be lighting a moody night time scene using the same scene file that was used while developing this course. This approach will help you better learn the content within this course, especially if you're at a beginner experience level.īelow is an example render where the same techniques taught in this course were used. I would recommend working on the class project as you follow along with the lesson videos.

Compositing the final render for final output using Blender.Adding volumetric/atmospheric effects to further add to the mood and help direct the eye through the frame.Hero lighting specific assets in a way that aids the composition.Creating practical/physical lights within the scene/set to add to the mood and atmosphere.Setting up an initial natural lighting setup as a foundation to work from.New Maya and Katana interfaces are available immediately, with Houdini integration available shortly.Follow along as we develop the lighting for a moody night time scene! In this course you’ll learn about key elements that help to establish a dramatic mood, along with various techniques that can be used to implement these elements within a scene using Maya and Renderman. Additionally RenderMan’s Preset Browser and library of materials is now supported in all three applications. Interactive shading and lighting are faster and more robust, while entirely new kinds of interactive edits are now possible, including modeling, animation, grooming, LPE authoring, and more.

RenderMan artist interfaces for Autodesk’s Maya, Foundry’s Katana, and SideFX Houdini have all been comprehensively updated for version 22. Pixar research and development also provided important new features for producing superior imagery faster, as well as groundwork for better studio pipeline management with Pixar’s USD (Universal Scene Description). The latest release also includes advanced lighting technology used on Pixar’s own animated feature films, including Finding Dory,

These dramatic improvements to interactive workflows enable new kinds of collaboration throughout the filmmaking process, and will transform traditional pipelines. Major updates to the core architecture allow RenderMan to support “live rendering” at every stage of the pipeline, providing fluid feedback for fast artist iteration. With version 22, RenderMan redefines production rendering by delivering photorealism with a huge palette of artistic controls, enhanced interactivity, and epic scalability for feature film. This major release is focused on artist productivity, improved data management, and advanced new features.
